Should You Buy a Motorcycle?
If you’re looking for ways to save gas, you might be considering a motorcycle. Is this a viable alternative for you, and if it is, what do you need to think about before you decide to purchase a motorcycle?
With gas prices spiraling ever upward, scores of people are looking for alternative forms of transportation. Motorcycles have become a popular choice for many, including a surprising number of women and baby boomers. The face of your average motorcycle rider is changing. Now it is no longer a surprise to see a gray haired, portly grandfather in a Hawaiian print shirt, a young executive in a 3-piece suit or a middle-aged mother in Capri pants at the handlebars of a motorcycle. If they can do it…can you? Is a motorcycle the right gas saving option for your life?
The general opinion is that almost anyone in reasonably good health can ride a motorcycle. It doesn’t hurt to have a little bit of adventure seeker in you, but motorcycles are a viable option for most people. Before you take the big step and go out and purchase your first motorcycle, though, ask yourself some pertinent questions. Have ever ridden on a motorcycle? Were you comfortable? How will you use the motorcycle? Will you be using it to run nearby errands, riding it back and forth to work, or will you want to take some longer expeditions on your bike? Are you willing to take the time to learn to ride your motorcycle safely and properly? Will you be able to use the motorcycle often enough in your climate to make the purchase worthwhile? These are all things to consider before deciding to buy a motorcycle of your own.
If you decide you do want a motorcycle, there are several things to think about before you buy. Do some thorough research and learn what type motorcycles are recommended for beginners. You do not want to get more bike than you are able to handle. If you find you love the sport of motorcycling, you can move up to a bigger, more powerful motorcycle after you have honed your riding skills.
Women and shorter men have some special considerations when shopping for the proper motorcycle. There are many sizes and styles of motorcycles available and you need one that is ergonomically correct for your body type. An average motorcycle is geared to fit a man who is at least 5′10” tall. An average woman will not be comfortable or safe riding a motorcycle that size. Instead, look for motorcycles with low seats and a lighter weight. You need to be able to plant both feet firmly on the ground when your motorcycle is at a stop. A low center of gravity, narrow seat and longer handlebars can also make handling your motorcycle more comfortable.
Remember, the first motorcycle you buy is going to be a learning tool. This is the motorcycle you will use while preparing to grow in the motorcycle world. Pick the bike that is right for you, use the right safety gear, take the proper training classes and you will soon be riding with confidence. Not only will you be saving gas and money, there’s an excellent chance you will fall in love with the thrill and freedom of motorcycling, as so many others have done already.

Nicely written article about a subject I really enjoy. The future is riding on motorcyles.
motorcycles can be great, weather permitting. I use to ride around some on a Harley Davidson Softail Classic, so much fun. Todays custom designs have gotten so crazy!! I wrote an article compiling some pictures of the craziest ones titled Would You Ride This if you’d like to check it out!
